Qualcomm has finally announced the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at their recently held Snapdragon Summit! There were so much speculation and rumors going around the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Now that it's here, let's take a look at the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor along with what it brings to the table and so on.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Overview:
The CPU and the GPU
The new chipset from Qualcomm stays on the 4nm fabrication technology with a new core architecture. It features a prime core with ARM Cortex-X4 technology and a maximum clock speed of 3.3 GHz. It is then coupled with five performance cores clocking in at 3.2 GHz and two efficiency cores at 2.3 GHz. The company says the new CPU offers 30% better performance as well as being 20% more power efficient. In terms of the GPU, we are getting an Adreno 750 which supposedly delivers up to 25% improved performance than its predecessor. Along with that, Qualcomm claims that it is also 25% more power efficient. Furthermore, this new chipset offers 240 FPS support as well as lifelike lighting with 40% better hardware-accelerated ray tracing.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU (Neural Processing Unit), that focuses solely on the AI side of things. The company says this iteration of their NPU boasts a whopping 98% performance boost! This helps us make better use of virtual assistants, GPT chatbots, stable diffusion, and more things AI-related.Moving on, Qualcomm will be using its new "Snapdragon X75 5G" modem for this chip. This modem allows 5G dual-SIM dual-Active (DSDA), meaning it enables simultaneous use of 5G on both your SIM cards. Furthermore, this new chipset also features the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 system, wherein it supports WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. It also supports six-way navigation support with GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC.
Hardware support and the rest
The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supports up to 24 GB LPDDR5x RAM with a clock speed of up to 4.8 GHz. Similarly, it offers UFS 4.0 storage along with USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 support. It also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 technology that enables charging speeds of up to 0–50 in a mere five minutes with a 100W+ charger. In terms of multimedia, we get Qualcomm Spectra image signal processor and Qualcomm Aqstic technology support. As a result, this SoC supports Rec. 2020 color gamut along with 8K HDR video capture at 30 FPS. Similarly, in terms of audio, it offers spatial audio with a head-tracking feature alongside 24-bit 96KHz lossless audio on Bluetooth.
