To help you stay on top of your health, we’ve been coming up with our pick for the best fitness trackers and budget smartwatches available in Nepal. While such devices suffice for many, some prefer a premium smartwatch experience with a whole lot more features. So in this article, we'll be taking a look at the best smartwatch you can buy right now in Nepal.
Almost all the major smartwatch makers sell their flagship offerings in Nepal. Including Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Amazfit, and more. It probably goes without saying that if you own an iPhone and are in the Apple ecosystem, then you can't go wrong with an Apple Watch. But until 2022, Apple's selection of smartwatches used to be pretty simple. If you want the best Apple has to offer, get the latest Watch Series. Or if you want to save a few bucks, then the "Watch SE" lineup will serve you perfectly fine as well.
However, the new Apple Watch Ultra (which was announced late last year) significantly changed this landscape. Besides being the most premium Apple Watch to date, it is also designed with extreme outdoor sports in mind. Whereas if you don't want an Apple Watch, then there are some equally appealing options in Nepal too.
Like the Apple Watch Ultra, the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra and T-Rex 2 are a couple of great rugged smartwatches that work with both Android and iOS devices. And Amazfit's regular GTR and GTS series are excellent non-rugged, everyday smartwatches as well. Similarly, Huawei's Watch GT lineup and Samsung's Galaxy Watch 6 series are also something you can consider for a premium smartwatch experience.
Note: In this list of the best smartwatches in Nepal, we have also included the unofficial prices of a few ones. Some of those products are simply unavailable from official channels here in Nepal; whereas in some cases, the price difference between official and unofficial channels is a bit too significant. The unofficial prices of such products are marked with an asterisk (*) at the end. |
We're kicking off our list of the best smartwatch in Nepal with the Amazfit T-Rex 2. This is a rugged smartwatch that's specially designed for outdoor activities. As a result, it has a big, burly design and all the durability-oriented features you can think of. For instance, Amazfit T-Rex 2 has passed 15 military-grade tests (MIL-STD-810G) and is guaranteed to work even in extremely low-temperature conditions. As low as -30°C!
The company has also bumped water resistance from 5 ATM on the first-gen Amazfit T-Rex to 10 ATM this time. That means it can even handle water pressure at a depth of 100 meters! Furthermore, it has dual-band GPS with 6 satellite positioning systems too. You see, traditional smartwatches only support L1 GPS which is pretty vulnerable to signal interference from tall trees, high buildings, and similar physical structures. But with T-Rex 2's dual-band GPS that supports the L5 signal as well, you'll be getting much better navigational positioning here.
To help plan and navigate your hiking, cycling, or other exercise trails, you can also import the routes as GPX files directly into this smartwatch. Amazfit T-Rex 2 can even suggest the shortest route back to the start of your journey in case you get lost in the middle of your hike or in any other emergency.
As for the display, the T-Rex 2 has a 1.39-inch OLED screen with an incredible 1000 nits of peak brightness for excellent outdoor visibility. The battery life of this rugged smartwatch is also incredibly impressive. Amazfit says it can last up to 24 days under typical or 10 days under heavy use cases. Even with continuous GPS usage with accuracy mode turned on, the T-Rex 2 is rated to go as long as 26 hours! But filling up its 500mAh battery takes almost 2 hours, so there's that.
Besides being a fantastic smartwatch for your outdoor adventures, this is a great fitness tracker as well. It supports over 158 sports modes in total and it can automatically recognize a bunch of strength training exercises. You can even create personal training exercises for 11 different sports by customizing different aspects of the exercise like warm-up and warm-down periods, training interval, and more.
Alongside the T-Rex 2, Amazfit also sells a couple of more rugged smartwatches in Nepal. Including the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra and the Amazfit Falcon for NPR 68,999 and NPR 84,999, respectively. But considering their price difference, we believe the T-Rex 2 is a much better value. Because for all that extra money, all you're getting is a more durable build quality and a few additional fitness tracking options. That's it.
At number 5 spot on our list of the best smartwatch in Nepal are the Amazfit GTR 4 and Amazfit GTS 4. Unlike the rugged "T-Rex" series, these are more of the typical flagship smartwatches with all the bells and whistles you could ask for. From a premium design, excellent battery life, and a horde of health and fitness tracking features, these Amazfit smartwatches have a lot to offer. And besides their form factor itself, these two are basically the same feature-wise.
The GTR 4 does enjoy a better battery backup thanks to its bulkier build but other than that, there's no difference. Which means whether you're a fan of a circular or a square watch dial, you can get the same flagship smartwatch experience on either of them. Interestingly enough, despite featuring a larger battery, the actual battery endurance on these smartwatches is actually worse than what the Amazfit GTR 3 and Amazit GTS 3 managed.
And this could be because of Amazfit's new BioTracker 4.0 PPG biometric sensor, which apparently takes 33% more data for better heart rate, stress, and blood oxygen level measurements. These 4th-generation smartwatches also bring improved sleep tracking. Besides tracking your SpO2 levels, REM sleep cycles, and everything else, the GTR 4 and GTS 4 can now measure your breathing rate too.
Another neat feature on these smartwatches is something called "one-tap measurement". With this, you can easily take heart rate, stress, SpO2, and breathing rate readings with a simple tap instead of having to go through them one by one. Similarly, Amazfit GTR 4 and GTS 4 can track over 150 exercise modes. And we found their built-in GPS to be pretty fantastic too.
Both these smartwatches run on Amazfit's Zepp OS 2.0 platform. Even though it's not as capable or feature-rich as Apple's watchOS or Google and Samsung's WearOS, Zepp OS 2.0 offers a fantastic balance between a smooth, snappy software experience and nice battery life. This time, you can also install a handful of useful mini-apps from Amazfit's app store. And the one we found to be the most useful is called "Notify for Maps", which is essentially a watered-down version of Google Maps.
Another notable addition to the GTR 4 and GTS 4 is Bluetooth phone calls. This feature was limited to just the "Pro" model last time, but we're glad Amazfit didn't make the same mistake here. Having said that, the actual call quality itself could've been somewhat better. Besides all this, these smartwatches are quite comfortable to put on and have an excellent AMOLED display as well.
Amazfit is among the few wearable brands that regularly launches its latest products in Nepal. Case in point, the recently launched Amazfit Cheetah (NPR 36,999), Amazfit Cheetah Pro (NPR 49,999), and Amazfit Balance (NPR 38,500) are already available here. And if you're looking for a smartwatch to track and improve your running stats, then you could consider the Cheetah Pro instead. It supports offline map download, dual-frequency GPS, personalized performance data, and more to help you improve your stats.
Whereas the Amazfit Balance brings an updated BioTracker 5.0 sensor, newer Zepp OS 3.0 software, and a couple more sensors over the Amazfit GTR 4 and GTS 4. Including air pressure, temperature, and also something called a Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) sensor. The latter lets you enable body fat, skeletal muscle, basal metabolism, and a few other metrics, just like on Samsung smartwatches.
Another strong contender in our list of the best smartwatch in Nepal is the Huawei Watch GT 4. Following the US ban, the company has been focusing more on IoT products rather than on smartphones here. And the Huawei Watch GT 4 is among the company's most recent smartwatches to launch in Nepal.
Its circular dial makes for a classic and elegant look and the body is made entirely of metal which is complemented by stainless steel frames. On the right frame, there's a crown with a customizable button beneath it. Available in either 41mm or 46mm variants, the larger one has this octagonal design now which looks pretty bold. While the smaller 41mm Watch GT 4 has a more elegant look with no lugs at all. For swimmers in mind, Huawei has also certified it with 5 ATM and IP68 certifications.
Upfront, there is a 1.43-inch AMOLED panel on the 46mm model — while the 42 mm variant hosts a slightly smaller 1.32-inch display instead. As the perk of an AMOLED screen, it supports Always on display while the brightness is also enough for indoors as well as outdoors.
When it comes to watch faces, there are over hundreds of options to choose albeit there is no way to customize it to your preference. It runs on Huawei’s own HarmonyOS 4.0 which we found to be extremely smooth and responsive.
For downloading third-party apps and such, there's also Huawei's App Gallery — but don't expect much in terms of app availability. You can also make or receive calls through the watch itself — thanks to the built-in speaker and microphone. But there's still no dialer to manually enter the number.
In terms of health and fitness features, it supports blood oxygen, heart rate, and sleep monitoring while the built-in GPS lets you trail your routes without a smartphone. The Watch GT 4 can now keep track of your calories too. Finally, the Watch GT 4 delivers exceptional battery life with 14 days of backup with continuous SpO2, heart-rate monitoring, and other features turned on.
Other than the Watch GT 4, you can still find 2021's Huawei Watch GT 3 (review) in Nepal which is a solid smartwatch for NPR 36,990 (46mm).
And if you're shopping for something truly one-of-a-kind, then the Huawei Watch Buds — which goes for NPR 69,990 — is yet another option to consider. It's got all the regular smart features and health and fitness tracking abilities but what's unique about it is that it's got a built-in pair of wireless earbuds. To our surprise, the actual sound quality of these earbuds isn't too bad either. Even active noise cancellation works pretty well here given their compact size.
The next entry in our list of the best smartwatch in Nepal is the Apple Watch Series 9. It's the successor to the Apple Watch Series 8 which is still available in Nepal and is still one of the best smartwatches, by the way. However, it does not bring any major upgrades to its predecessor. It's got a newer, faster S9 chip, Precision Finding for iPhone 15 (review) series, the brightness has been doubled from 1,000 nits to 2,000 nits, and it also supports "double-tap gesture" for easier navigation across the watch but... that's about it
Anyway, Watch Series 9 is available at 41mm and 45mm (the same as Series 8). And you can either get it with an aluminum case or one with stainless steel. As for the color options, this smartwatch is available in Pink, Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and (PRODUCT)RED.
Apart from this, it is also IP6X dustproof and WR50 certified against water damage up to 50 meters. But the display protection material on the aluminum and stainless steel variants is quite different. You see, while the aluminum variant is layered with Ion-X glass, the stainless steel models get much tougher sapphire crystal glass instead. So you know which one to get if long-term durability is a big concern.
As I mentioned before, among the few new upgrades on the Watch Series 9 is its processor. It is powered by the new S8 chip based on A15 Bionic, which has an upgraded CPU and a 30% faster GPU. As for software, it boots on watchOS 10 which introduces a bunch of new features, including scrollable widgets. Whereas Apple has redesigned most of the system apps to make better use of the screen space as well.
Besides this, it brings all the other health and fitness tracking features like heart rate, blood oxygen, ECG readings, and more. And the Watch Series 9's temperature sensors offer deeper insights into menstrual cycle tracking too. Then there are a few quality-of-life upgrades onboard. Including 25% more accurate dictation and on-device Siri requests. That means things you no longer need an active internet connection for things like setting an alarm or starting a workout.
So seeing how the Watch Series 9 doesn't bring that many exciting features to the table, we're still recommending you go with the Apple Watch Series 8 — or even Apple Watch Series 7 — if you want to save a few bucks.
But before we get to the best of the best, our picks for the runner-up are Samsung's Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. The Watch 6 series brought back the beloved rotating bezel with the Watch 6 Classic. And with some iterative upgrades here and there, the Watch 6 Series slightly outperforms last year's Galaxy Watch 5 series.
Despite having pretty similar specs, there are some key differences between the vanilla Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic. For starters, they are made out of different materials and weigh very different. The standard Watch 6 is made out of armor aluminium whereas the Classic is made out of stainless steel. While this does make the latter more durable, it is also heavier at nearly twice the weight (52/59 grams vs 28/33 grams).
It is also more expensive and doesn't offer a smaller size than 43mm. On the other hand, the Watch 6 is relatively more affordable and offers a 40mm variant. But again, if you're looking for a bigger watch, you're gonna have to shell out for the Watch 6 Classic.
Though there aren't groundbreaking changes, we can still see some nice-to-have features, like bigger screens. The newer Watch 6 series smartwatches feature anywhere from 15-20% larger displays when compared to their predecessors. Both are "Always On" super AMOLED panels capable of hitting up to 2000 nits of brightness and protected by the same sapphire crystal glass. And just like last year's smartwatches, the new Watch 6 and Watch 6 classic charge super fast and offer all day's worth of juice with a quick 30-minute charge.
The watches are powered by the newer Exynos W930 chipset. It is a dual-core processor with two Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.4GHz. Pair that with slightly more RAM (2GB vs. 1.5GB previously), and the watches are even faster and more capable than before.
They run on Wear OS 4 with Samsung's One UI 5 on top. And just like their predecessors, they will get 4 years of software updates. The health tracking is pretty much the same with some minor updates here and there. Including real-time heart rate monitoring, SpO2, stress tracking, women’s health features, blood pressure, and skin temperature monitoring. Samsung has improved sleep monitoring on the new smartwatches with detailed analysis and sleep coaching. There's improved fall detection and a new irregular heartbeat notification on the Watch 6 series.
And our top pick in this list of the best smartwatch in Nepal is the Apple Watch Ultra 2. There's no sugarcoating it — this is a ridiculously overpowered smartwatch and it's simply an overkill for most wearable enthusiasts. But if you're into extreme outdoor sports and want the very best that Apple has to offer, the Watch Ultra 2 is about as good as it gets.
Okay, since this thing is geared toward outdoor sports enthusiasts, durable build quality is pretty much a given. Unlike basically every other Apple Watch so far, the Ultra gets a flat display which is much less prone to impact damage. This big 49mm case is made out of corrosion-resistant titanium while the watch's base gets ceramic and sapphire build material.
Besides this, the iconic rotating crown and the side button have also been reimagined for the Apple Watch Ultra 2. It has an additional "Action" button on the left frame that can be customized to trigger different shortcuts or apps with a simple click. Similarly, this smartwatch is IP6X dust-sealed, MIL-STD-810H certified, and WR100 water resistant for up to 100 meters. So yeah, as far as smartwatch durability goes, this thing ticks all the boxes.
Okay, let's talk about its health and fitness tracking abilities now. As I said before, pro endurance athletes will be the ones to make the most out of the Apple Watch Ultra 2. And its dual-frequency L1 and L5 GPS support is definitely among the most impressive features of this smartwatch.
This has also been complemented with some helpful features like "Compass Waypoints" and "Backtrack" so that you can navigate your hiking route much more easily. Moreover, Apple Watch Ultra 2's health monitoring ability doesn't leave much room for complaint either. It can do everything from heart rate, sleep, and stress, to SpO2 tracking — while the onboard temperature sensor gives advanced insight into women's cycle tracking and ovulation estimates.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 also brings a bunch of safety features, including car crash detection. It even has a loud 86dB siren that you can trigger to alert people near you in case of an emergency. Other than this, the Watch Ultra's battery backup is equally impressive. Although it's not on the same level as Amazfit or Huawei smartwatches above, it will easily last around 3 days under regular usage — which is almost twice as more compared to a regular Apple Watch.
But like how the Apple Watch Series 9 was such a dull upgrade compared to its predecessor, the Watch Ultra 2 is no different. And compared to last year's Apple Watch Ultra (review) — which currently sells for NPR 143,000 — this second-gen smartwatch doesn't bring much new to the table either.
There's the upgraded S9 chip, improved dictation, on-device Siri, and double the onboard storage. While this guy can now get as bright as 3,000 nits too. So going with the first-gen Apple Watch Ultra still makes all the sense in the world to save some money.
